RECEPTION PHONICS WEEK

MONDAY 9TH NOVEMBER-FRIDAY 13TH NOVEMBER

Reception class is delighted to announce their annual ‘Phonics Week’
Our ‘Phonics Week’ will be fun and creative and all of the Reception children will be involved in activities throughout the week to help them develop their awareness of the sounds the letters make and to develop their phonological awareness. This skill is needed to both read and write.

Phonic activities will include:
● alphabet printing;
● art and Craft;
● alphabet soup
and many more phonics games, songs and sound activities.

Our ‘Phonics Week’ is centred around the ‘High Quality Phonics’ programme ‘Pearson Phonic Bug’.

Today we will be sending each child home with a large letter sound which they need to decorate and bring back into school on Monday 9th November. It is a capital letter and also the first letter sound their name begins with.

We would also ask them to bring in one object that day, which begins with their letter sound. We will display the objects in the classroom in the small shoe boxes in the reading area. If you have ‘a’ you could bring in a small apple or a toy ambulance - if you have ‘m’ you could bring in a marshmallow or a small lego man etc.
There will be a prize for the best letter!

We will also hold a phonic play session in school on Friday afternoon (13th November) that 1 adult can attend per child. It will be great to seeyou there. If you can’t make it try to send another family member or friend.

Our Reception phonics week will be very successful and will provide a fantastic start to the children’s learning.
